Zephyr-TEC Partners with Emdat

Sometimes, you just want someone else to do it

Zephyr-TEC is happy to announce our new partnership with Emdat, Inc., a leading provider of medical documentation solutions. As a global leader in speech recognition software implementation, training and support, Zephyr-TEC has helped thousands of clients become productive when creating patient encounter documentation. By adding Emdat to their menu of services, Zephyr-TEC can deliver the physician satisfaction, patient-focused care and seamless EHR integration that the Emdat solution brings.

Emdat is a full transcription solution - produce the sound files, and they return the written text. But their solution is built around speech recognition, and they price accordingly - the more of the text that can be done automatically, the cheaper the pricing gets. For a typical one page dictation, the use of templates and speech recognition can make transcription 40-50% cheaper than traditional transcription rates.

So how does Emdat work?

Emdat allows for sound file creation via Emdat Mobile for smartphones (iPhone, iPad, Droid), InSync (handheld digital recorders) or inTouch (telephone).

Transcriptionists use InScribe - whether in house (on your site) or as part of Emdat's transcription team.

Transcriptions can be reviewed and edited via computer or mobile device.

EHR Entry
Emdat's DaRT (Discrete accurate Reportable Transcription) allows the results of the dictation to be entered automatically into an EHR, including into the discrete data fields.

This highlights the three main keys to why the Emdat system works so well:

Emdat allows for sound file creation via Emdat Mobile for smartphones (iPhone, iPad, Droid), InSync (handheld digital recorders) or inTouch (telephone).
Transcriptionists use InScribe - whether in house (on your site) or as part of Emdat's transcription team - but the templates, speech recognition, and analysis mean there are less words to type - which means savings.
Emdat's ability to deliver the results - either as a printed document or directly to the EMR - finishes the process quickly and efficiently.

Medical facilities and healthcare providers will maximize their productivity, improve accuracy and streamline workflow — all while decreasing documentation costs. The secure, web-based software platform completely automates the documentation process. These solutions enable transcription professionals and care providers access to the information they need to efficiently create, document, review and publish care documentation.

If this sounds like something that would fit you or your organization, give us a call, and we can set up a demonstration just for you!

The Sexy New SpeechMike Premium

It's Smart, Clean and It Feels Good

Based on feedback from professional users, Philips has reinvented and improved the SpeechMike, the device that has become the standard in digital dictation, and has released the new SpeechMike Premium.

Our CEO, Renee Griffith, likes the new SpeechMike Premium (with Dragon) so much she's adopted the SpeechMike as her "on-the-road" mic. It literally goes everywhere with her!

"My recognition is fantastic," says Renee, "it is lightweight, fits my smaller hand better than other handhelds, has 4 Function buttons to which you can program just about any action in many different software programs and has a replaceable USB cord if you accidentally break it. It also has an antimicrobial coating to resist bacteria growth - perfect for healthcare environments!"

Free-floating, decoupled microphone

The completely redesigned microphone suspension guarantees that almost no background noises, touch or click noises are recorded.

Metal microphone grille with optimized structure

The hexagonal holes used for the metal grille feature three times more open surface than its predecessor, engineered to provide crystal clear recordings.

Integrated pop filter

The microphone area is made of many different layers. One is a fleece inserted above and below the microphone capsule. The fleece filters out sound distortions such as pop and hiss noises, guaranteeing perfect results even if dictating closely into the microphone.

Integrated motion sensor

The Philips SpeechMike Premium comes with an integrated motion sensor. It detects when it's put on the table, mutes the microphone, and once it is being picked up again it unmutes the microphone.

New freely configurable instruction key

In addition to 4 programmable buttons, Philips has added an instruction key at the top of the control panel-also fully and freely user configurable. Especially useful for programming speech recognition commands.

A polished, pearl metal colored cabinet reduces fingerprints

The housing of the new SpeechMike Premium is made of polymers providing a high quality metallic effect and making it non-sensitive to touch noises and fingerprints.

Antimicrobial housing and buttons

The SpeechMike Premium's housing and buttons are made of antimicrobial synthetics, guarding it against all kinds of germs. The antimicrobial effect on the SpeechMike Premium lasts for at least five years.

The SpeechMike Premium comes in push button, slide switch and barcode models.

Combine the new Premium Mic with SpeechExec Pro Dictate software and Dragon, and you have an unbeatable digital workflow solution that won't break the bank!

Now through 12/31/12, get a FREE SpeechMike Premium when you order Dragon Medical Practice Edition. Just give us a call, and we'll get you all set up with this deal - but only while it's 2012!

Philips Autumn Specials
Upgrade Quick before Winter Starts

We've got a couple specials from Philips that are available this fall but act now, because these specials end when winter comes (12/21/12). Free SR upgrades, free Transcriber Kits, and trade-in your existing recorder to get rebates on new recorders.

The first special is free SR upgrades to the SpeechExec system. We've talked about SpeechExec before (here and here), but it's a wonderfully flexible system for getting digital recordings (from a recorder or smart phone or computer) to a transcriptionist (via e-mail or FTP or network).

With our expertise, we always look at adding Dragon into the mixture - it makes the transcription go quicker, reducing costs and saving time. To enable that, you need the SR license for your SpeechExec software - and this fall, those are FREE!

Buy SpeechExec Pro Dictate OR SpeechExec Pro Transcribe OR the SpeechExec Pro Transcribe Kit:

Get the SR license FREE

If you're setting up the whole office, we've got a deal for you. If you buy five of the excellent Philips DPM 9600 recorders, we'll give you a FREE SpeechExec Pro Transcribe Kit, so that your transcriptionist can be up and running. The SpeechExec Pro Transcribe Kit includes the software, foot pedal, and headset.

Buy five Philips DPM 9600 Recorders:

Get a SpeechExec Pro Transcribe Kit FREE

Lastly, got an old recorder? Want to upgrade to something nice and new for Christmas? Again, through December 21, get a $50 trade-in value when you purchase a new Philips DPM 9600 recorder. Your old recorder (analog or digital) must be working, and we must receive them by January 21st, but this is a great upgrade offer.

Trade in your working analog or digital recorder when purchasing a DPM9600

Get a $50 trade-in Value

If you have any questions on any of these specials, or want to place an order - please give us a call. But remember, these specials end on December 21, 2012.

Success Story
Worldwide Oil Company partners with Zephyr-TEC to rollout Dragon

Earlier this year Zephyr-TEC was contacted by a major international oil and gas company based in Houston. A division of this company was doing a pilot of the Dragon NaturallySpeaking software and expressed interest in the Zephyr-TEC training program. After discussing the options with them, they decided to have one of Zephyr-TEC's instructors come to Houston to conduct a Train the Trainer program. Zephyr-TEC's Chris Mantani went to Houston for two one-week blocks of time to train three oil and gas company employees who would then become trainers to train other interested Dragon users within their company.

The employees were trained for four days in February and then were given a month or so to work with Dragon and integrate what they learned with their computer tasks. Chris went back to Houston in March and conducted another week of training. The second week consisted of Chris training one of the programmers at the oil and gas company while the "trainees" observed. The next three days each of the "trainees" had the opportunity to train an employee while Chris observed and was able to give support as necessary. Below are comments from two of the "trainees" about their experience with the program.

The first trainee says…

"The majority of our employees use the computer for extended periods of time and some have begun to experience discomfort. We have decided to train users in Dragon NaturallySpeaking to mitigate the risk associated with heavy computer usage. Earlier this year I completed a "train the trainer" program offered by Zephyr-TEC. Along with two of my colleagues, I was taught by Chris Mantani over a two week period. The training was designed to allow us to train our coworkers to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Since then, we have trained approximately 45 employees. As a trainer, I feel I am helping others to do less clicking and stay injury free. Using Dragon Naturally Speaking really does make a difference."

The other trainee adds…

"Two other individuals and I completed a Train-the-Trainer course with Chris Mantani from Zephyr-TEC in March of 2012. Since that time I have trained 17 individuals, and our group as a whole has trained about 45 individuals in Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I have witnessed the detrimental effects a heavy computing work environment can have on an individual in both their professional and personal lives. Dragon NaturallySpeaking has given our company's greatest assets an alternative solution!"

Having a company plan for implementation – and making use of Zephyr-TEC's well developed resources – has helped make this a very successful implementation. But the true value is even more long term: skilled employees stay with the company.

What Is This Box and What Does It Want from Me?

Let's say you decide to Google the latest Honey Boo-Boo episode. You open up Google and begin to dictate into the search field. Suddenly, you are presented with a strange box you've never seen before. What's happening?

By default in Version 12, Dragon displays the Dictation Box if you start to dictate in an "unsupported application" - such as Google's search field in Firefox.

Unsupported applications are those applications which only support basic text control. Using basic text control, you can't reliably select, format, or revise text.

NOTE: The Text Control Indicator on the DragonBar and is green when all of Dragon's selection and dictation capabilities are supported and white when they are not.

If you decide you want to dictate directly into the unsupported text field, you can turn off the automatic popping up of Dictation Box.

On your Dragon bar, choose: Tools > Options > Miscellaneous. Uncheck the box entitled: Use the Dictation Box for unsupported applications

NOTE: Should you need it, you can always open the Dictation Box by saying: "open dictation box."
