Dragon Medical Practice Edition 4 is Here!
Update to the Desktop Dragon Medical is Worth the Wait

Cutting-edge speech technology delivers superior performance

Dragon Medical Practice Edition 4 empowers clinicians to complete documentation more efficiently than ever before.

Powered by a next generation speech engine, Nuance® Dragon® Medical Practice Edition 4 achieves 99% accuracy out of the box without voice profile training. Physicians and other health care providers navigate and dictate medical decision-making and treatment plans directly into a patient's electronic record and spend less time typing or clicking in the EHR. Available for independent practices of 24 or fewer physicians, Dragon Medical Practice Edition is a locally-installed solution designed and priced especially for smaller practices that want to transform the documentation process.

Superior speech recognition, amplified for medical use
Distinct from nonmedical speech recognition, Dragon Medical Practice Edition combines 90 medical specialty and subspecialty vocabularies with acoustic models based on the unique way physicians speak—audio, syntax, style, and structure—resulting in remarkable accuracy. Advanced Deep Learning technology constantly learns and adapts to voice and environmental variations—even during dictation—to refine performance. Dictate for real-time speech to text or transcribe audio recordings to create clinical documentation.

Simple setup, easy-to-use functions, dependable performance
In as little as 60 seconds, users gain access to uninterrupted, high-quality speech recognition even where reliable internet is not widely available—all with no profile training, and with dynamic microphone adjustment. Options and settings are consolidated into one easy-to-use dialog box for easy management of profile and auto-formatting options. A movable DragonBar provides easy access to popular features and automatically collapses when not in use. Customized macros for frequently dictated text can be created with a single voice command.

Optimized for portable touchscreens
Along with high performance on modern desktop and laptop Windows computers, Dragon Medical Practice Edition delivers documentation productivity on the go through compatibility with Windows 10 touchscreen devices. Hybrid touch and keyboard interaction work seamlessly for controlling the DragonBar and other features.

Dragon Professional Group Update
Update to 15.1 Squishes Some Bugs

Dragon Professional Group, Dragon Legal Group and Dragon Law Enforcement have announced the release of Version 15.1.

Like Dragon Professional Individual 15, Dragon Group 15 Versions employ the next-generation speech engine powered by Nuance Deep Learning technology. Dragon achieves high recognition accuracy while dictating, even for users with accents or those working in open office or mobile environments; making it ideal for diverse work groups and settings.

Unlike Dragon Professional Individual-Group offers enterprise ready features. Roaming User Profiles can be created allowing users to access their profile from multiple workstations. Group also offers flexible volume licensing programs and Citrix support.

Additionally, Group allows access to the Nuance User Management Center (NUMC). The NUMC makes it easy for your organization to track employee usage of Dragon, redistribute licenses based on usage, and manage or share customizations, including custom words, commands and auto-texts, across multiple users.

The 15.1 release also offers some important bug fixes:

Microsoft Office issues

  • Slow performance and hang issues no longer occur.
  • In Outlook, "Command <text>" commands (for example, "Correct Smythe") no longer stop working after a user adds a signature or image to an email message.
  • Jumping cursor issues no longer occur.
  • Replying to an email in the reading pane no longer closes the reading pane unexpectedly, leaving the reply stored in the Drafts folder
  • Dragon no longer causes Office applications to fail.
  • Loss of Full Text Control or focus no longer occurs in Office applications.
  • Dictation no longer stops working in Office applications.
  • Office applications, Dragon, and Citrix no longer fail when switching between Office Applications in a Citrix environment or when the Dragon add-in is enabled.
  • The "Runtime error R6025 - pure virtual function call" error message no longer occurs during dictation in Microsoft Word 2010.

Command and control issues

For the Canadian English region, the "Select <text> to <text>" command has been changed. The command is now: "Select <text> through <text>"
Additional "Command <text> to <text" commands, such as "Correct <text> to <text>", now require you to use "through" instead of "to" ("Correct Mary through lamb").

Success Story
Dragon Medical One gives Noble Physicians Flexibility, Portability

Dr. Steven Rudnick, MD, is the founder and CEO of Noble Physicians in Washington. Dr. Rudnick was referred to Zephyr-TEC by Nuance Communications, Inc., the developers of Dragon Medical One and the PowerMic Mobile. We recently did a quick question and answer session with Dr. Rudnick on this solution.

What type of practice do you have?

  • We work in Post-Acute/Long Term Care facilities and run a busy addiction practice that specializes in medically assisted treatment of opioid use disorder.

What most influenced your decision to subscribe to Dragon Medical One (DMO)?

  • I experimented with Dragon Medical 10 back in 2009 or so, but it was not ready in my opinion. Many colleagues said, "it was coming along" but it still had accuracy and compatibility issues with EMRs and EHRs. Also, I was short staffed in 2016 and needed something to help me keep up with my documentation in a busy practice.

Has your DMO experience been positive so far?

  • Yes, it is right on target. Dragon Medical One is remarkedly more accurate than any of its desktop predecessors. It is an excellent tool for clinical documentation from any computer I use. DMO is light years beyond where it was back in 2009!

Are you using DMO on more than one PC?

  • Yes. I have it on 2 office PCs and my laptop. I also understand I can install DMO on as many PCs as I want, unlike the desktop version (4 activations).

What microphone(s) are you using?

  • Currently I use Nuance handheld UPS PowerMics plugged into 2 PCs at which I dictate. I am interested in exploring the use of the PowerMic Mobile for my iPhone/Droid to help me be even more mobile and wireless.

Did the live, online 1-on-1 training you received from Zephyr-TEC meet your expectations?

  • Yes, I experienced good training that helped me navigate DMO and learn more about how I can use it to further increase productivity.

Do you use templates in Dragon, EMR, other?

  • Yes, I live and die by templates. I use the template feature in DMO as well as directly dictate into other templates in my EMR.

Would you recommend ZTEC to your colleagues?

  • Absolutely! I've secured additional subscriptions for my staff and have recommended other providers contact Zephyr-TEC to subscribe to DMO.

Any additional comments?

  • I am more productive dictating the patient encounter with DMO during or immediately after the exam, in real time. This allows me to spend more time with my patients. Turnaround time with DMO is, of course, immediate, instead of waiting for transcription to come back for review and editing. And best of all, because I can complete my clinical documentation so quickly, I get paid faster too!

I highly recommend Dragon Medical One and Zephyr-TEC Corp.

With 25 years of experience deploying and training Dragon, Zephyr-TEC will help YOU Harness the Power of Speech!™

Tech Tools & Tips
Managing Dictation Sources

A dictation source is an audio input device that you use to dictate to Dragon. It could be a headset microphone, a desktop microphone, or even a digital recorder from which recorded audio files are downloaded for Dragon to transcribe. Dragon Professional has had this feature for several versions, but it is a new and welcome addition to Dragon Medical Practice Edition 4.

Dragon allows you to use one or more dictation sources for a single user profile.

If you originally set up your profile with a headset microphone but later purchase a different audio input device, you will want to add a dictation source.

Adding a New Dictation Source

  1. On the DragonBar, choose: Profile > Manage Dictation Sources. The Manage Dictation Sources dialog box will open.
  2. Choose: Add New Dictation Source. The Add a Dictation Source dialog box will open.
  3. Select the dictation source. Choose: Next
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions, reading the text aloud as prompted
  5. Choose: Finish

Switching between Dictation Sources

  1. On the DragonBar, choose: Profile > Manage Dictation Sources. The Manage Dictation Sources dialog box will open.
  2. Select a dictation source. Choose: Select

Always attach your dictation source to your computer BEFORE you open Dragon
